Goals are critical if you are looking to make progress. Having a “let’s just see where this goes” type of thought process when it comes to goal setting is not prime thinking for success. One must set a bar they want to achieve. It doesn’t have to be down to the nitty gritty specifics; it can be as simple as creating sustainable healthy habit. I always ask my clients to pick a goal they work towards and KEEP! Make sure it’s manageable so you are more apt to stick with it. The goal doesn’t have to change but the steps in which you take to get there may need editing. The important thing is to make sure you keep moving forward no matter how big or small the step.
I do not recommend goal setting as a New Year’s Resolution. Sorry, don’t mean to be a downer but you shouldn’t need the start of a new year to get to where you want to go. Especially since 99% of all resolutions fail to come to fruition. How important is it to you? Why wait? Start now with manageable steps.
For instance, say you want to lose 20lbs, my first question to folks is to ask why. It may seem silly as everyone is looking to lose weight, right? The number one rule for goal setting is to know your “WHY”. If your “WHY” is resonating enough, you will stick with it. Without getting into details my daughter was quite sick a few years back and her diet needed quite a bit of adjustment. We ate very well, just the wrong things. My “WHY” was her health and to be pain-free. It was all I thought about and worked towards. She is pain free because we stood by our goal. What’s your why? What’s your goal?
