We are our own worst critics. Why when we look to do/be/achieve something great we leave room for the negative “what ifs”? What if it doesn’t work? What if no one shows up? What if I don’t make enough? What if I’m not good enough?
If you knew the answer was always going to be “yes”, would you think differently? Of course, you would!
Let’s try an exercise. Say the following to yourself and be aware of how it makes you feel:
- I’m lazy. Yes!
- I’m not successful. Yes!
- I’m not worthy. Yes!
- No one is going to show up. Yes!
- I’m wonderful. Yes!
- I’m happy with myself. Yes!
- I’m beautiful. Yes
- I look forward to a fully attended event and it being a total success. Yes!
- I’m going to have a wonderful time. Yes!
I don’t think I need to point out which of the above is more palatable. Ask and you shall receive. Ask and speak of what you WANT, not what you don’t want. Some may say this is silly and having an emotional safety net is typical but the energy you bring to a situation has much more bearing than you can imagine. Why burden yourself with negativity?
Your thoughts and words have weight and it’s important to pack on the weight with the right ones and detox the wrong ones.
